How to create a project
A project is the heart of Reconstro — it's where you track work, money, your team, and progress for a single job. This guide explains what you need before you start, then walks you through creating one.
The short version: most of the form is already filled in for you. A project can be just a name and a tap on Create project. The only thing you may have to set up once is a currency.
Before you start: what a project needs
When you create a project, Reconstro asks you to confirm four choices. Three already have sensible defaults, so you usually just confirm them. One — a currency — you might need to add yourself the first time.
1. Business (required, already set up)
Every project belongs to one of your businesses. Your account comes with a Main business out of the box, so this is pre-selected for you.
The business matters because your zones and your staff both belong to a business. If you change the business, the Zone and Team lists change to match it — so if you need a different business, pick it first.
2. Zone (optional)
A zone is the area or grouping a project sits in (for example a city, a district, or a site). It's optional — leave it as No zone if you don't organise work by area, or pick one to group the project. You'll only see zones that belong to the business you chose; you can add zones any time from Manage zones.
3. Currency (the one thing you might need to add first)
Every project has a base currency — the main currency you track its money in. Unlike the business, Reconstro does not pick one for you. You choose it from the currencies you've activated.
- If you've already added a currency, it's pre-selected — just confirm it.
- If you haven't added any currency yet, the form offers an Add a currency button that
takes you to Settings → Currencies. Add one there, come back, and it appears in the picker.
Note: this is the one real prerequisite — you can't create a project until at least one currency is active. It's a one-time setup; after your first currency, every later project just reuses it.
4. Staff / Team (optional)
You can assign team members so they can see and work on the project. The team list shows the staff that belong to the business you picked. This step is optional — you can add or change the team any time from the project's Team screen.
Plus: a project name (required)
A name (2–200 characters) is the only thing you always type yourself. Everything else is either pre-filled or optional.
Steps
- Open the Projects tab and tap the + (create) button.
- Enter a project name.
- Confirm or change the required pickers: Business, Project type, and Base currency.
- Optional: choose a Zone, the work type (New or Renovation), a client / owner,
start and end dates, extra currencies, and a location.
- Optional: pick your team from the business's staff.
- Tap Create project.
Your new project opens, and it appears at the top of the Projects list.
Optional details you can add
| Field | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Description | A short summary of the job. |
| Work type | Whether the project is New work or a Renovation (defaults to New). |
| Start / End dates | The planned schedule. The end date can't be before the start date. |
| Owner (client) | The client this project is for. |
| Location | A street, a unit, and an exact point on the map for the site. |
| Additional currencies | Extra currencies you track on top of the base currency. |
Tips
- Most fields are pre-filled. The fastest path is: type a name, then tap Create project.
- Currency is the only one-time setup. Add a currency once and you're set for every future
project.
- Business controls Zones and Staff. If you're changing the business, change it first.
