Add a currency
Currencies are how Reconstro tracks money. Every project has a base currency, and every amount you record is in one of your currencies. This guide shows how to add one, set your default, and manage the ones you have.
Why this matters: you need at least one active currency before you can create a project. It's a one-time setup — once you've added a currency, every future project reuses it.
Add a currency
- Go to Settings → Currencies.
- Tap Add.
- Pick a currency from the list (the catalog of world currencies).
- It's added to your currencies straight away.
That's it — there's nothing to type. You're choosing from a built-in list.
Set your default currency
One of your currencies is the default. The default is the currency Reconstro suggests as the base currency when you create a new project, so set it to the one you use most.
- Tap a currency and choose Set as default.
- You can change the default any time.
Show or hide a currency in projects
Each currency has a Show in projects switch:
- On (active): the currency appears in project and transaction pickers.
- Off (inactive): it's hidden from those pickers but its history is kept.
Turn a currency off when you've stopped using it but it's already attached to a project — this keeps that project's records intact while removing it from new choices.
Only active currencies can be chosen as a project's base currency.
Remove a currency
How you remove a currency depends on whether it's in use:
| Situation | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Not used by any project | Delete it. You'll be asked to confirm, and you get a one-tap Undo right after. |
| In use by a project | You can't delete it (its data must survive). Switch Show in projects off to deactivate it instead. |
| Your default | You can neither delete nor deactivate it. Set a different default first, then remove it. |
Decimal places (optional)
You can set how amounts are displayed for each currency — for example 1,234 with no decimals, or 1,234.00 with two.
- On a currency, open Decimal places.
- Choose Automatic (use the standard for that currency) or a fixed 0–4 decimals. Each
option previews a sample amount so you can pick by sight.
This only changes how numbers look — it doesn't change the stored values. (Changing it may require permission; if you can't, ask your contractor admin.)
Tips
- The only currency setup that blocks creating a project is having one active currency — do
that once and you're done.
- Use deactivate (the switch), not delete, for a currency that's already on a project.
- Set your default to your everyday currency so new projects start correct.
